April

We all welcome the floral embrace of spring. Did you know there are 32,000 varieties of daffodils/narcissi? I am growing many types that bloom early and later. April is also the time when I transfer the seedlings of a large variety of annuals that I started under grow lights indoors in late February to the garden, along with many more seed varieties that go directly in the ground after the last frost. Also moving from inside to outside in late April are the Dahlia tubers I potted up after storing them inside in the winter, to give them a two month head start. I recently designed, weeded, and planted a magical woodland shade area with Virginia and Spanish Bluebells, foam flowers, lupine, foxglove, blood root, ferns, trillium, blue forget me nots, bleeding hearts, Astilbe, monkshood, brunnera, Dutch iris at the border and so much more, many of these are early bloomers. One of my garden goals is to create a pollinator paradise, which means having a variety of plants that bloom in as many months of the year as possible.
